What's Happening Downtown This Weekend: October 16-19, 2026

Written by Kim Donahue, REALTOR® with Medway Realty | 30+ Years of Real Estate Experience · Updated October 12, 2026

This is the weekend the fall craft season truly arrives in Southwest Florida. Downtown Sarasota hosts the 30th Annual Downtown Sarasota Craft Festival at Five Points Park, Lakewood Ranch opens its weekend with Shakespeare by the lake at Waterside Place, and Downtown Bradenton pairs free rock at Motorworks with pumpkin festival weekend two at Hunsader Farms. Add the farmers markets, live music along every waterfront, and a free family Halloween celebration on Sarasota's bayfront, and there is no shortage of Southwest Florida weekend events to choose from. Whether you are searching for things to do downtown Sarasota this weekend, planning around Lakewood Ranch events, or checking Bradenton events this weekend, here is your local's guide to all three downtowns.

Downtown Sarasota This Weekend (October 16-19)

Sarasota's anchor this weekend is the 30th Annual Downtown Sarasota Craft Festival, which fills Five Points Park with more than 100 juried artists on both Saturday and Sunday. Around it, the Saturday farmers market, a free family Halloween celebration at The Bay, and two big tribute concerts at the Van Wezel give everyone a reason to be downtown.

Friday, October 16

One Park FOUR All Community Celebration at The Bay

The Bay Sarasota, 1055 Boulevard of the Arts, 9:00 to 11:00 AM. Free. The Bay's fourth anniversary month continues with a morning community celebration on the bayfront, part of a lineup of more than 70 free events running through November 1. A gentle, free way to start the weekend by the water.

Ride and Paddle at The Bay

The Bay Sarasota, 10:00 to 11:30 AM. A guided kayak tour on Sarasota Bay follows the morning celebration, one of The Bay's recurring ways to get out on the water. Check The Bay's calendar to reserve a spot.

Gravel Road at Mattison's City Grille Downtown

1 North Lemon Avenue, 8:00 to 11:30 PM. The downtown Mattison's keeps its Friday live music tradition going with Gravel Road on the patio. Dinner, drinks, and live tunes a block off Main Street.

1923 Ringling Boulevard (just south of downtown), 8:50 PM. Comedian Nick Hoff headlines McCurdy's, the area's long-running comedy room, with shows Friday and Saturday. Check the theatre for showtimes and tickets.

Sunday by the Lake

After the market, the lakefront path at Waterside Place and the lawns of Waterside Park are free for strolling, picnicking, and letting kids run. Restaurants around the plaza stay busy all afternoon, making it easy to turn the market visit into a lunch out.

Monday, October 19

A Quiet Start to the Week by the Lake

Monday is quiet in Lakewood Ranch, but Main Street and Waterside Place are open for dining, shopping, and strolling, and the lakefront path offers a peaceful evening walk. Music on Main, the district's First Friday block party, returns on Friday, November 6, if you are already planning next month.

Village of the Arts

The historic Village of the Arts district is open for browsing this weekend. Its monthly Art Walk was last weekend (October 2-3), so there is no district-wide event this Friday, but the colorful houses, galleries, and studios welcome visitors whenever the mood strikes. The next Art Walk lands November 6-7, and Trick-or-Treat in the Village returns October 31.

Saturday, October 17

Bradenton Public Market

Old Main Street (12th Street West), 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM. Free to browse. The downtown market returns for its October-through-May season with fresh produce, local vendors, prepared foods, and live music filling Old Main Street. Expect the craft show, live music, the Pioneer Trades Village, scarecrow displays, hayrides, pony rides, a petting zoo, and frog jumping championships. It is one of the most popular fall events in the region.

Dueling Pianos at 88 Live Piano Bar

A splash pad, playgrounds, sand volleyball courts, a skate park, the Mosaic Amphitheater, a fishing pier, and open lawns keep everyone busy. Pack a picnic, rent a bike, or find a shaded bench and watch the boats along the Manatee River.

Sunday, October 18

Sunday Blues Brunch at Mattison's Riverwalk Grille

101 Riverfront Boulevard, late morning into afternoon. Sunday brings the weekly live blues brunch on the open-air patio at the Riverwalk. Blues, brunch, and the river: a genuinely Bradenton way to close the weekend.

Hunsader Farms Pumpkin Festival, Day Two

5500 County Road 675, 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Sunday is the quieter day at the festival, and the morning window is the best time to beat the crowds. Hayrides, pumpkins, and farm animals make it a full family outing.

Sunday Afternoon on the Riverwalk

Sunday afternoon is the quietest, most pleasant time on the Riverwalk, perfect for a walk or bike ride along the Manatee River. The splash pad is a favorite with families, and the pavilions offer shaded spots to sit and watch the boats and the drawbridge.

A Note for Theater Fans

Carrie: The Musical opened October 15 at the Manatee Performing Arts Center, 502 3rd Avenue West, in the Bradenton Kiwanis Theater. It is the big downtown theater opening of the month, so check the box office for showtimes and tickets.

For the most current listings, check the Discover Bradenton events calendar, the Bradenton Public Market page, and the Bradenton Gulf Islands events page.

Exploring All Three Downtowns

One of the best parts of living in Southwest Florida is having three distinct downtowns within about a half-hour drive of one another. Start Friday evening with Shakespeare by the lake at Waterside Place in Lakewood Ranch or free rock at Motorworks in Bradenton, spend Saturday morning at the Downtown Sarasota Farmers Market or the Public Market in Bradenton, then browse the craft festival at Five Points Park, catch Boo! at The Bay Saturday evening, or close the weekend with the blues brunch on the Bradenton Riverwalk. Each district brings its own flavor: Sarasota shines as the region's cultural and craft heart, Lakewood Ranch delivers polished, family-friendly master-planned charm with a lakefront plaza, and Bradenton offers authentic Gulf Coast waterfront character with a thriving arts district around the Village of the Arts. Spread a weekend across all three and you will taste something different in each one.
